East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for two enthusiastic individuals that are keen to develop a career in Building Control as part of the Ipswich and East Suffolk Building Control Partnership. You will be primarily based in Lowestoft, but there will be the potential for you to work across the whole partnership area to give you a wider range of experience and enable you to develop your Building Control knowledge.
Your responsibilities will include checking construction projects at both the plan and construction stages for compliance with the Building Regulations and associated legislation. You will also provide support to our team of Surveyors, dealing with initial enquiries from the public, and assisting with the examination of applications for compliance with Building Regulations. As you gain more experience you will be able to assist with advising applicants and agents, site inspections and making recommendations for the approval or rejection of building regulation applications.
Ideally you will already have 4 GCSEs, including English, Science and Maths at Grades 4 -9/Grade C and above, or (or equivalent), and currently be studying for or possess the BTEC level 3 Diploma in Construction. Alternatively you may bring significant relevant experience either gained within construction or from within a Planning / Building Control role. If you haven’t yet completed the BTEC qualification you will be required to undertake assisted study in order to achieve this.
We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and who demonstrates a willingness to learn. You should have good written and verbal communication skills and be well organised in your approach to work. Computer literacy and confidence is also essential, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office.
In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development. We want you to stay with us for the long-term, so we’ll give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There’s also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose-built, brand-new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.
