12-week Summer Internship Programme
It is a very exciting time to be working in Local Government. Service demand and financial pressures mean that we have to work in very different ways to meet these challenges. We are having to think differently about how we can deliver essential services in a dynamic, flexible and cost-effective way.
To help us do this we are looking for talented individuals who are comfortable working in a fast paced and evolving environment who can bring creativity and help shape our long-term sustainable solutions to the challenges we face.
All internships will start on 7 June 2021 making this is a perfect opportunity to invest in your future and gain employability skills this summer.
Suffolk County Council, Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils, East Suffolk Council are some of the local government authorities responsible for maintaining countywide public sector services within Suffolk.
Our aim is to lead as exemplar employers, offering opportunities to young people who are driven and want to make a difference to the people of Suffolk.
Roles are normally based at one of our modern and conveniently located office accommodations, however, during the COVID 19 pandemic, we have been working at home and it has worked really well for us. Initially, and in line with Government restrictions, there will be an expectation to work from home.
The internship programme is specifically designed for UK undergraduates who are seeking to gain and develop employability skills. This consists of a 12-week virtual internship within a council, with opportunities across the breadth of our organisations.
We aim to provide the best opportunities across a range of services such as economic development and growth, housing, HR, families and communities and asset management to name a few.
You can expect to be paid the National Living Wage for your hours worked, and you will be eligible to take off annual leave as and when accrued over the 12 weeks. Business travel expenses, where eligible, will be reimbursed.
Flexible working is actively encouraged throughout the councils.
