21-month training contract

Based in Lowestoft or Melton (dependent on candidates preference)

Apprenticeship start date: September 2020 (to be confirmed**)

Looking to kick-start your career? East Suffolk Council has an established and successful apprenticeship scheme, which has seen over 80% of its apprentices stay on beyond their apprenticeships to develop promising careers with the council. If you are looking for an exciting opportunity where you can earn money as well as gaining experience and a recognised qualification, then look no further!

A unique opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our Development Management team. This apprenticeship opportunity could be your ideal first step on the career ladder in the Planning or Building Control field.

You will learn how to maintain accurate land and property records on both GIS and on database systems. You will also be trained to provide support and advice service to end users and colleagues within the Council regarding the use of land and property systems.

Excellent numeracy, ICT and written skills will be essential to this role, as well as developing a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.

You will have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grades 4 -9/Grade C and above (or equivalent) including English and Maths, with good communication and IT skills and high standards of numeracy and accuracy.   No experience is necessary as full training will be provided.

So, what can we offer you in return?

  • A fully funded and supported Level 3 Business Administration qualification
  • Generous annual leave entitlements and high street discount scheme
  • Valuable work based skills from day one
  • The opportunity to meet and work alongside other apprentices in the organisation
  • Multiple training courses and development opportunities to add to your CV.

We hope you find the attached list of frequently asked questions useful in understanding more about the team, role, apprenticeship qualification, and application process. If you have any other questions, please contact us by emailing HR@eastsuffolk.gov.uk

**Due to the current situation, all selection interviews will be completed virtually via Skype. We are aiming for this apprenticeship position to start in approximately mid/late September 2020, but this timeframe will need to be regularly re-assessed in line with the current situation and any government guidance that is released around Covid-19. We will keep candidates informed of any updates relating to this.

If you think you could bring enthusiasm, fresh ideas and a different perspective to East Suffolk Council, we would like to hear from you!

Interview date: w/c 27 July 2020 or w/c 3 August 2020.
