Looking to kick-start your career in local government? Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils have an established and successful apprenticeship scheme, which has seen over 70% of its apprentices stay on beyond their apprenticeships to develop promising careers with the councils. If you are looking for an exciting opportunity where you can earn money as well as gaining experience and a recognised qualification, then look no further.
A unique opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our East Suffolk Communities Team (ESCT). This apprenticeship opportunity could be your ideal first step on the career ladder in the field of working with communities and their representatives.
This exciting and unique apprenticeship opportunity will involve providing administrative and project support for the ESCT, to assist in delivering the team's work programmes which are based around community enabling (helping communities to do what they want to do), community safety and community health and wellbeing.
The projects you will be involved in could include; organising activities for young people to reduce anti-social behaviour and ensure communities are safe; helping communities have a greater say in their future by embarking upon a village review or neighbourhood plan; organising intergenerational activities and supporting initiatives to improve health and well-being, including mental health, dementia and support for carers. Your administrative duties will include assisting in the arrangement of meetings, note taking, typing documents, working with data and supporting the team at events.
We can offer an interesting and varied work programme, a positive team environment, and the opportunity to get involved in different tasks at different levels and to lead stand-alone projects.
You will be an enthusiastic, positive individual with excellent communication skills, who is up for new challenges and curious about how things work and how you can help to make things work better.
You will have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent) including English and mathematics, with excellent IT skills and high standards of accuracy. No experience is necessary as full training will be provided,
Our Apprentice will be based in either our Melton or our Lowestoft office. Please indicate your preference on your application form.
So, what can we offer you in return?
- A fully funded and supported Business Administration qualification
- Generous annual leave entitlements and high street discount scheme
- Valuable work-based skills from day one
- The opportunity to meet and work alongside other apprentices in the organisation
- Multiple training courses and development opportunities to add to your CV.
The 2017 apprentices have worked together this year to create a video to tell you a little bit about their experience of being an apprentice at East Suffolk Councils.
We are excited to announce we will be holding recruitment open evenings this year to give you the opportunity to meet the teams, and ask any questions you have about the application process or the apprenticeship qualification.
The open evenings will be taking place on the following dates:
- 16 July: 5pm - 6.30pm, Riverside Offices, 4 Canning Road, Lowestoft NR33 0EQ
- 19 July: 5pm - 6.30pm, East Suffolk House Offices, Riduna Park, Station Road, Melton, Woodbridge IP12 1RT.
