Based in Lowestoft or Melton, Woodbridge.
On 1 April 2019, we will become East Suffolk Council – a new ‘super district’ authority, replacing Suffolk Coastal and Waveney. It will be the largest district council in the country, providing high-quality services to a quarter of a million people across east Suffolk. Our councils are an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to those who need them most.
We are already a progressive, successful partnership, and you will be working as a business partner by managing procurement processes for a range of internal departments and helping them to deliver the resources needed for their ambitious programmes of work.
East Suffolk is committed to investing in the local infrastructure and economy, and procurement has a big part to play in this. As a dynamic authority actively tackling the issues and challenges within East Suffolk, it is a truly exciting time to join us.
The diverse range of services, projects and partnerships planned, or already in place, offer opportunities for personal development on a daily basis. Meanwhile, new challenges to create improved sustainability, engage or develop local supply chains, engineer beneficial social value or deliver commercial options as part of our procurements will test your ability to think unconventionally.
For example perhaps you might be working with the funding team to pull together a group of arts organisations to put on a festival, or you might be helping the regeneration team find architects and designers for a major regeneration project along Lowestoft’s waterfront, or helping coastal management teams with cross-council solutions for coastal protection across the East of England.
Whatever the project, you will be a key part of delivering vital services to those who need them most, in more effective and efficient ways.
You will need to ensure that all procurement is undertaken in accordance with professional and legal standards and probity, and ensure best value for the citizens of East Suffolk using the most appropriate route(s) available. You will then help to realise this best value with good contract management.
Familiarity with public sector procurement regulations, and contracting and negotiation processes would be great, however, most importantly we are looking for an enthusiastic approach; problem solving skills, excellent communication and organisational skills, a can-do attitude, the ability to deliver complex projects to time and budget are all essential requirements for this role.
In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development. We want you to stay with us for the long-term, so we will give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There is also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose built brand new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.
