East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.
In this post, you will provide specialist ecological advice to the Planning Service to protect and promote the natural assets of East Suffolk. Working with a number of stakeholders, this will include reviewing ecological appraisals and mitigation proposals, undertaking Habitats Regulations Assessments (Screening and Appropriate Assessment) to inform decision making and Local Development Documents. Complementing our other planning specialist services you will seek to ensure ecological compliance in development and to further nature conservation and biodiversity in the Districts.
With a degree (or equivalent) level qualification in Ecology or a related discipline, you will have a good understanding of both strategic planning and development management elements of the town and country planning system, as well as detailed knowledge of legislation and techniques for the conservation, management and enhancement of habitats and species. Confidence in negotiation, the ability to foster robust working relationships and strong analytical skills are all essential for this position.
In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development and we’ll give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There’s also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose-built, brand new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.
Due to the current situation with Covid-19, the majority of our teams are working from home and there is strict social distancing measures in place for the limited number of staff working from our offices. If you wish to discuss how that might impact your working arrangements if you were the successful candidate, please contact the recruiting manager listed at the bottom of this advert.
Please read the job description and person specification before applying for this job.
