East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.

The Planning Service is central to the future success of the new Council, helping to shape and deliver the prosperity of the area, while keeping it a special and desirable place in which to live, work and visit. To support this ambition, the Planning team needs to grow and in return we can offer the right candidates significant opportunities to develop their careers with an award-winning service.

The council is delivering nationally significant infrastructure projects in the energy sector, positively responding to the Government’s growth agenda by allocating and positively planning for significant residential development across the district and delivering significant employment opportunities. The work will include promoting and enhancing the Port of Felixstowe as well as supporting the regeneration of Lowestoft. Growth on this scale needs to be sensitively managed to ensure it is delivered with the best possible infrastructure in place and impacts fully mitigated.

Additionally, a significant proportion of the district sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, adjacent to the Broads National Park and along a stunning coastline of pristine beaches and beautiful estuaries. Lowestoft is within a short distance of the historic, university city of Norwich, with Melton close to Ipswich and an hour’s train journey to London. No other district in the country is able to offer the successful candidates the quality of life, variety and breadth of planning opportunities and development in the country’s largest and newest district planning authority.

In this new post, as an individual with a strong planning and/or financial, audit or project management background you will provide a lead role in the Major Sites and Infrastructure team as part of the wider Planning Service at East Suffolk. This includes responsibility for the collection and coordination of a multi-million pound Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund and leading in the Council’s responsibility for assessing and funding infrastructure requirements within the District and surrounding areas, based on extensive housing and employment growth.

This role includes managing a team of officers, collecting and spending the CIL fund and co-ordinating the delivery of infrastructure covered by Section 106 agreements and planning applications. You will also work closely with the Development Management Team in dealing with major planning applications to ensure infrastructure needs of development can be addressed.

In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development. We want you to stay with us for the long-term, so we’ll give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There’s also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose built brand new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.

Please read the job description and person specification before applying for this job.
