Could you help shape East Suffolk’s future? If you are up for the challenge, come and join a forward thinking, dynamic and friendly team.
East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk. No other district in the country is able to offer the successful candidates the quality of life, variety and breadth of planning opportunities and development in the country’s largest and newest district planning authority.
The Planning Service is central to the future success of the new Council, helping to shape and deliver the prosperity of the area, while keeping it a special and desirable place in which to live, work and visit. To support this ambition, the Planning Team has recently grown and we now have a new opportunity for you to join us. In return we can offer the right candidate significant opportunities to develop their career with an award-winning service.
The Council is delivering nationally significant infrastructure projects in the energy sector and positively responding to the Government’s growth agenda by allocating and planning for significant residential and employment development. With an excellent track record in plan making, the Council has recently adopted and advanced Local Plans, providing an up-to-date strategic policy context for delivery to 2036. The work will include promoting and enhancing the Port of Felixstowe as well as supporting the regeneration of Lowestoft. Growth on this scale needs to be sensitively managed to ensure it is delivered with the best possible infrastructure in place and impacts fully mitigated.
Additionally, a significant proportion of the District sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, adjacent to the Broads National Park and along a stunning coastline of pristine beaches and beautiful estuaries. The coastal town of Lowestoft is within a short distance of the historic, university city of Norwich, with Melton close to Ipswich and an hour’s train journey to London.
Reporting directly to the Planning Policy and Delivery Manager, as one of four Principal Planners, you will lead on the preparation, monitoring and delivery of growth and regeneration through Local Plan documents, Supplementary Planning Documents, Master-planning and Development Briefs. You will also collaborate with other teams, organisations and individuals, both internal and external to the Council, on specific projects and take a lead role in supporting communities in preparing, delivering and monitoring Neighbourhood Plans.
You will be an enthusiastic and committed individual, who can rise to the plan making challenges and lead and support staff to deliver an excellent service. You should possess a relevant recognised accredited Degree in Town and County Planning as well as Full Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development. We want you to stay with us for the long-term, so we’ll give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There’s also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose built brand new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.
