East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.
The Planning Service is central to the future success of the new Council, helping to shape and deliver the prosperity of the area, while keeping it a special and desirable place in which to live, work and visit. To support this ambition, the Planning team needs to grow and in return we can offer the right candidates significant opportunities to develop their careers with an award-winning service.
The council is delivering nationally significant infrastructure projects in the energy sector, positively responding to the Government’s growth agenda by allocating and positively planning for significant residential development across the district and delivering significant employment opportunities. The work will include promoting and enhancing the Port of Felixstowe as well as supporting the regeneration of Lowestoft. Growth on this scale needs to be sensitively managed to ensure it is delivered with the best possible infrastructure in place and impacts fully mitigated.
Additionally, a significant proportion of the district sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, adjacent to the Broads National Park and along a stunning coastline of pristine beaches and beautiful estuaries. Lowestoft is within a short distance of the historic, university city of Norwich, with Melton close to Ipswich and an hour’s train journey to London. No other district in the country is able to offer the successful candidates the quality of life, variety and breadth of planning opportunities and development in the country’s largest and newest district planning authority.
Working as part of the Major Sites and Infrastructure Team, the role will involve a project management approach to leading on the Council’s largest planning applications. This includes a number of Garden Neighbourhoods for up to 2000 homes, and major commercial developments in Felixstowe and Lowestoft, a requirement for collaborative working with applicants, communities and stakeholders, and proactive involvement in negotiation of Section 106 agreements.
This role will involve a some mentoring responsibility for major developments being considered within the Development Management Team, as well as working closely with the wider Planning Policy and Delivery Team to support plan led growth. It will also require a long term commitment to overseeing the delivery of planning permissions and continued engagement, with developers and communities, through that process.
With considerable post qualification experience in Development Management, giving sound knowledge of the planning system and planning law, you will also work as a planning advisor to the Council on schemes the Council wishes to promote.
In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development. We want you to stay with us for the long-term, so we’ll give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There’s also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose-built, brand-new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.
