This vacancy is only open to employees of Suffolk County Council and Kier working within Suffolk Highways.
An opportunity exists for a dedicated person with career aspirations in the highways service, within the Winter and Cyclic Works Team of Suffolk Highways.
Suffolk Highways is a collaboration between Kier and Suffolk County Council to maintain roads and deliver new highway infrastructure throughout the county.
The Winter and Cyclic Works Team of Suffolk Highways is dedicated to the management and execution of winter maintenance treatments, routine and reactive drainage works, hedge and tree cutting and management, rural grass cutting, skirting, weed spraying and grip cutting.
Reporting to the Winter and Cyclic Works Manager, you will prepare prioritised programmes, liaise with specialist providers (internal and external) for planned and cyclic maintenance works relating to grass verges, weeds, hedges, trees and highway drainage, to ensure that the work can be undertaken in the most cost effective manner.
You will also assist in delivering the winter maintenance service, including maintenance treatments, checking salt stock usage, residual salt levels in salt barns, the re-stocking of grit bins and grit heaps and the maintenance of winter gritter route records. It is essential that you always maintain a customer focus for all aspects of the services that the team delivers.
You should have, or be working towards, an HND / HNC in a relevant highways (or civil) engineering discipline or equivalent level of knowledge and experience as well as certification in site safety management. A willingness to learn new skills and develop your own knowledge base is essential.
You will need:
- knowledge of winter maintenance, drainage and soft estate standards, legisation and techniques
- excellent communication skills, with an ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders and the supply chain
- to risk assess and prioritise operations within tight financial constraints, with good budget control skills.
