East Suffolk Council is a progressive, 21st century organisation with strong values and a range of clear strategic ambitious plans to grow and develop our organisation, people and services. Sometimes referred to as a ‘Super district’ East Suffolk is home to 250,000 residents and to an exceptionally diverse economy and range of communities.

We are looking for a Head of Legal and Democratic Services and Solicitor to the Council who will work with the senior team to ensure that the Council’s statutory requirements and democratic processes are delivered effectively, and the Council’s activities are conducted in a lawful and transparent manner. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be responsible for the effective strategic direction, leadership and governance of the Council’s Democratic Services, Legal and Licensing services. As the Council’s Monitoring Officer, you will also be responsible for ensuring that that the Council, the Councillors and Officers, operate within the requirement of the law, relevant codes of conduct and in accordance with the constitution.

In addition to an appropriate legal qualification, high-level relationship management skills are essential, as is real commitment to the Council and the district as it responds to the opportunities and challenges ahead.

We are committed to continuous transformation and welcome candidates who will be able to bring a fresh perspective and innovative approach. If you are progressive in outlook,   tenacious and determined by nature,  have the ability to lead, inspire, motivate and manage in our fast-paced environment, and can command the trust of Councillors and partners, then we want to hear from you.

Our specially commissioned film showcases the career defining opportunities and quality of life that East Suffolk has to offer and the difference that you can make to our residents, communities and sector. Please click here to view the film.
