Suffolk Coastal District Council and Waveney District Council are leading the way when it comes to working in partnership and are committed to improving the quality of life for everyone living in, working in and visiting east Suffolk.

Our councils are exciting places to work and great places to make a real difference to people's lives. The councils have merged most of its services, including our Planning and Coastal Management Service to ensure that we are delivering them in a high quality and cost effective way.

We are seeking an enthusiastic planning professional to join our innovative Development Management Team based in Lowestoft. This role will provide a great opportunity to develop a career in a forward looking partnership with key major projects within a beautiful area, including the regeneration of Lowestoft and associated renewable energy opportunities, Sizewell new nuclear build, BT Adastral Park and the Port of Felixstowe.

We have taken great care to redefine these roles to allow for the unique nature of this role to be better reflected in the terms and conditions we are offering. The role may attract professionals who are looking for a new challenge and wish to take a mentoring and managerial role in our team.

Your role will also encompass working on more complex planning applications and appeals, representing the council at planning committee, appeal hearings and public inquiries and supporting our infrastructure delivery colleagues. You will also have a key responsibility for quality control in our decision making and will take a position of seniority in the team deputising for the Area Team Leader.

In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development. We want you to stay with us for the long-term, so we will give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation. There is also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose built, brand new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking.

We also aim to provide an attractive and business like working environment for our team who will be well resourced and benefit from consistent support from our senior managers and elected members.

*Plus essential car user allowance and professional fees. Relocation allowance considered.

If you are a skilled professional who can demonstrate innovative leadership, team work and mentoring skills, we would like to hear from you.
