At Stowmarket High School we believe all pupils must be taught about mental health (and good physical health) to help them "grow up happy and well-rounded". As set out in Chapter 6 of the statutory SEND 0-25 years Code of Practice 2015, schools need to be alert to how mental health problems can underpin behaviour issues in order to support pupils effectively. The school is aware of its duties under the Equality Act 2010 and understands that some persistent mental health issues will meet the definition of SEND as it leads to pupils having significantly greater difficulty in learning than their peers.
An Inclusion Teaching Assistant (ITA) would improve and link the schools current Pastoral and SEND provision. Under the guidance of the SENCo and Assistant Head teacher responsible for Pastoral care, the ITA would closely follow the SEND CoP model of Assess, Plan, Do, Review.
