This is an exciting and rare opportunity to undertake a specialist role with children and young people who are profoundly deaf, have a visual impairment or who have a dual sensory loss; that is, they have both hearing and visual loss.

We are looking to recruit to the Disabled Children and Young People’s team, a progressive and dynamic team, an individual with the ability to support children and young people with a sensory impairment in their homes and communities. 

You will:

  • have good communication skills
  • be confident working directly with children and young people, their families and carers in a variety of circumstances.

British Sign Language at Level 1 or 2 would be a great advantage for this post, though it’s not essential.

You will have a caseload of children and young people who do not meet the threshold for Social Work intervention, and be able work individually in the community under the supervision and guidance of specialist Social Workers.  Some of the children you support will also have additional needs alongside their sensory impairment.

Training and on-going mentoring for the role will be provided.

The post is county wide and as such, access to personal transport and the willingness to travel is essential.
