* £27,741 – plus annual £1,500 retention payment (pro rata for part time) 

* whilst working as a Newly Qualified Social Worker within Children and Young Peoples Services you will also receive a retention payment of £1,500 plus an extra 3 days annual leave.

* rising to £30,451 (pro rata for part time) plus £4000 retention payment, upon successful completion of ASYE and a £500 Welcome Payment. Please see the ASYE Handbook.  

We have positions available across the county the following teams:

Social Care Teams (Assessment, CIN & CP)  

We are looking for social workers to join our 13 ‘Social Care’ teams, completing s17 and s47 assessments, and responsible for the management of our Child In Need and Child Protection Plans.

Child in Care Teams

We have 4 teams across Suffolk dedicated to working with our children in care – both our long-term children in care, and our children subject to care proceedings.

Fostering & Adoption Teams

We have 5 teams working with our foster carers, kinship carers and adopters – our Connected Persons Team; Recruitment, Assessment and Matching Team; Permanence Support Team; Short Term & Intensive Fostering Team; Stage 2 Adoption Team.

  • support flexible working including job share, part time and working from home arrangements 
  • support career pathways for social workers wishing to progress and develop in front line practice as well as specific interests
  • will invest in you in return for your investment in our families and children
  • limit caseloads to 15 for Newly Qualified Social Workers in their first 6 months, rising to 20 beyond 6 months and 25 for all other Social Workers and Experienced Social Workers.

A relevant social work qualification and Social Work England registration is essential. 

As a Newly Qualified Social worker here at Suffolk we offer the opportunity to commence employment as a Family Support Practitioner prior to registration, subject to the relevant checks.

All new social workers moving to Suffolk have access to a relocation package of up to £8,000 and a car leasing scheme. We offer an excellent annual leave package of up to 36 days (including bank holidays), subject to length of service. We also offer a welcome loan of £2,000.
