Why ONE?
Awarded BTEC College of the Year (2018), ONE is the only 'Outstanding' sixth form college in Suffolk. With a fresh approach to learning, we integrate a contemporary, inspirational working environment with first-class teaching, resources and student support. Proud of our Ofsted grading, we rank within the top three institutions across the Eastern Region, in all three categories of student progress (A Level, Academic and Applied General) of the 2020 Government Performance Tables.

Celebrating our inclusive, dynamic and progressive ethos, staff report exceptionally-high levels of satisfaction from working at ONE, and seek to make a genuine difference to the aspirations and achievements of our young people. Well-motivated, students express their enjoyment of lessons, and appreciate the open culture they experience at ONE.

The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a well-qualified and inspirational teacher of BTEC Sport to become an integral member of our energetic and supportive team. With a focus on success, you should demonstrate a commitment to outstanding teaching and learning practices, to support the achievement, progression and well-being of our students. Similarly, motivated by the provision of enrichment or progression opportunities, you should also consider innovative ways to develop extra-curricular sports delivery within the constraints of a busy and dynamic curriculum.

The Sports Curriculum
The curriculum at ONE currently offers the (Pearson) BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport; the Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport and Exercise Science; and, new for next year, the Level 2 Fitness and Exercise Instruction. Alongside, a small number of students select to study our YMCA Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Training and Gym Instructing.

With a comprehensive range of industry links, students enjoy direct mentoring, progression and work experience opportunities from an array of local and national organisations. Always seeking to add to this portfolio, we welcome applicants with previous industry experience, who ideally hold industry-standard fitness instruction and personal training qualifications, with a commitment to expand students' horizons through direct industry engagement.

Key Attributes
We are seeking to appoint a positive, personable and highly-motivated teacher with the following characteristics:

  • A passion for their chosen subject area
  • Up-to-date subject knowledge of relevant Level 2 and 3 Qualifications
  • A willingness to work collaboratively, where ideas and teaching strategies are freely shared within a high-performing team
  • A commitment to outstanding teaching and learning practices, with a desire for continual professional development
  • Experience of, and enthusiasm for, working with 16-19 year-old students.

How Staff Are Supported at ONE
As staff surveys reveal near-100% satisfaction with working practices at ONE, we pride ourselves on the support offered to all, including those who are new to teaching.

With a range of on-going staff development opportunities, all staff at ONE enjoy a comprehensive CPD programme, including the chance to conduct and implement educational research. Embedded in this, staff have access to a highly-enjoyable well-being programme, with access to sports facilities, and a varied number of health and recreation opportunities.

NQTs will be further supported with dedicated teaching remission; a highly-qualified teaching mentor; and additional support from the Director of Curriculum and other senior staff. When appropriate, we also support staff in achieving QTS or QTLS.

If you are interested in above opportunity, please download and complete the application documentation from this webpage. Alternatively, please contact Claire Kerridge, Assistant HR Manager at: hr@suffolkone.ac.uk for an application pack.

Interviews are expected to be held shortly after the closing date.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS checks or police vetting will be required for relevant posts.
